In some ways, New Year’s is nothing more than a collective fantasy – we flip the page on a calendar or the date displayed by our phones now reads “Jan 1” and we all agree that this means that it’s now a “new year” and time for a “new start”. Maybe all of this is a bit arbitrary, but I don’t think that it necessarily follows that it’s unhelpful or meaningless to frame one date vs. another as “new.”
You see, for me, a big life lesson has been how much of everything is about mindset. Listen to any professional at the top of their game speak and 9 times out of 10 you’ll hear them talk about mindset or some similar topic and its importance to success.
So while the proverbial turning of the calendar may not carry much weight when it comes to the realities of our world, it can be impactful if we use it as an opportunity to refresh our mindset. For me, the calendar now reading 2023 means taking a minute to slow down, reflect, and plan for what I want to do and what I want to become in the next 365 days.
In other words, the calendar now reading 2023 is what you make of it. And I think it’s worth seizing the opportunity and thinking about what we want “new” to look like this year.
Happy 2023!
An interesting post 🙂
